CT 325: CT Principles and Applications
Credits 3This course provides advanced didactic instruction in the principles and clinical applications of computed tomography, with emphasis on patient-centered care, radiation safety, image production, and protocol optimization. Students examine CT physics, instrumentation, acquisition parameters, and reconstruction methods as they relate to diagnostic image quality and dose management.
The course emphasizes clinical decision-making through the analysis of routine and specialty CT protocols, patient positioning strategies, contrast administration considerations, and image evaluation techniques. Students evaluate CT images and protocols to identify sources of error, recommend technical modifications, and support safe, diagnostically effective imaging practices consistent with professional and regulatory standards.
CT 325 serves as the primary cognitive foundation for clinical practice and certification preparation, supporting the development of judgment and technical reasoning required prior to supervised clinical immersion in computed tomography.
CT 340: CT Clinical Practicum I
Credits 4The purpose of clinical practicum is to apply knowledge and techniques acquired in the program. The student’s computed tomography technique and patient rapport will be evaluated. Students will work one-on-one with a registered radiographer at designated clinical settings. The student will begin in the observation phase, move to more hands-on positioning, and demonstrate the independent performance of exams throughout the course. The student will complete a minimum of 40% of the 125 independent repetitions (50 repetitions) of computed tomography procedures as outlined in the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) clinical experience requirements.
CT 350: CT Clinical Practicum II
Credits 4The purpose of clinical practicum is to apply knowledge and techniques acquired in the program. The student’s computed tomography technique and patient rapport will be evaluated. Students will work one-on-one with a registered radiographer at designated clinical settings. As a continuation of CT 340, the student will perform most exams independently. The student will complete the remaining minimum of 125 independent repetitions of computed tomography procedures as outlined in the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) clinical experience requirements.
CT 360: CT Clinical Practicum
Credits 8This clinical practicum provides supervised education in computed tomography, allowing students to apply didactic knowledge to real-world clinical practice. Students progressively develop competence in patient care, protocol selection, image acquisition, image evaluation, post-processing, and quality assurance activities within an approved clinical setting. Clinical experiences are structured to support increasing levels of responsibility, moving from observation and assisted participation to independent performance of computed tomography examinations. Emphasis is placed on patient safety, radiation dose optimization, diagnostic image quality, professional communication, and ethical practice. The practicum is aligned with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Clinical Experience Requirements for Computed Tomography and supports completion and documentation of required clinical procedures necessary for post-primary certification eligibility.
