Direct Supervision in Clinical Imaging Laboratory Activities

Because the Program does not maintain an energized on-campus laboratory, imaging laboratory activities that require ionizing radiation are conducted at affiliated clinical facilities. In accordance with the JRCERT Standards, all such activities must comply with the Program’s Clinical Supervision Policy.

All imaging laboratory assignments and experiments involving ionizing radiation are considered non-patient activities (e.g., phantom use, equipment testing, or simulated procedures) and must be performed under the direct supervision of a registered radiographer.

The use of ionizing radiation on patients is not considered a laboratory activity and must strictly adhere to the Program’s Clinical Supervision Policy, including all requirements for direct, indirect, and repeat image supervision.

Students are responsible for ensuring appropriate supervision is in place before initiating any imaging activity. Failure to comply with this requirement will result in corrective action in accordance with Program policies.
