Faculty Workload

Faculty

The standard workload for full-time faculty is fifteen credit hours per semester academic year of clinical and/or lecture assignments, 6-9 weekly office hours, and 5-12 weekly hours of preparation, college meetings, project, and/or committee work. (Please note this is standard workload for full time teaching faculty. The College reserves the right to make appropriate workload substitutions for Director and other specialized roles.)

All 39-week contractual faculty—regardless of program or division—are required to teach 30 credits for the academic year. Faculty who are employed year-round (program directors) are required to teach no more than 50% of their annual workload.

If a faculty member exceeds the 600-teaching hour workload requirement in one semester, their teaching load will be reduced in the alternate semester to ensure the annual workload does not exceed 1200-teaching hour. For example, a faculty member assigned 700-teaching hours in the fall semester would typically be assigned 500-teaching hours in the spring semester.

Faculty are also required to complete 80-hours of service to the college, which includes student advising, committee attendance (other than faculty senate), attendance at graduation and open house, proctoring exams, or special projects assigned by the Dean.

Any teaching beyond 1200-teaching hours during the 9-month academic year is considered an overload and is compensated accordingly through a stipend. Program directors who teach more than their 50% annual workload (960-teaching hours per academic year) are also considered overworked and are compensated through a stipend. Faculty who has teaching overload may decrease number of service hours to balance the teaching overload or a stipend.
